Dr Arun Raaza Dr Arun Raaza graduated from Swansea University with a Master of Research degree in Photonics and Communication Systems in 2009. He has since completed his PhD and served as the youngest Head of Electronics and Communication Department in the world (at VELS University, Chennai).

Dr Raaza has invented a smart telesurgical robotic endotrainer used for robotic surgery training. The robot has been developed at VELS University in Chennai, along with the Urology Clinic in Coimbatore.

The STeROBOT (Smart Telesurgical Robot) provides a real-time surgical experience using an endotrainer wherein the operations are controlled by the surgeon through completely programmed controllers. This is used for achieving better training for surgeons prior to robotic surgery in patients.

This new invention has many benefits, Dr Razza states “Our robot provides two and three dimensional views and provides hands on training in robotic surgery. Compared to other robots, STeROBOT has several advantages of being minimally invasive, highly precise, cost effective and easy to operate and also reduce the patients stay in hospitals.”
