    Introduction to Wild Plant Identification (10 Credits) - 18-20th April

    Overview: Basic plant identification training, including the use of botanical keys and an introduction to the most common flowering plant families



    Reptiles and Amphibians - Ecology, legislation and survey techniques (5 Credits) - 15th - 16th of May

    Overview: This is a bolt-on to the Understanding Protected Species module.



    Invasive Plants: Identification, Ecology and Control (10 Credits) - 29-31st May

    Venue: Swansea University

    Overview: This course aims to guide learners in how to identify and control aquatic and terrestrial invasive plants found in Wales.

    Laboratory Skills (10 Credits)

    Date: 27th April, 3-4th May 2012

    Overview: An introduction to up-to-date training in laboratory safety, basic chemistry for bioscientists and commonly used laboratory procedures.


    Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) (10 Credits)

    Date:  16th - 18th May 2012

    Tutor: Dr. Liz Bond (a.e.bond@swansea.ac.uk)

    Venue: Swansea University

    Training in the principles of GLP including GLP requirements and current legislation and implementation into a working laboratory environment


    Essential Light Microscopy (5 Credits)

    Date: 12-13th June 2012

    Tutor: Dr. Gabriela Juma (g.a.pinto-juma@swansea.ac.uk)

    Venue: Swansea University

    The course will provide a grounding in the principles of light microscopy and frequently -used techniques used to examine biological samples.


    Structural Elucidation and Characterisation (10 Credits)

    Date: 15th, 21-22nd June 2012

    Venue: Swansea University

    Training in Mass Spectrometry (MS) including LC-MS and GC-MS. Working with analytical instruments and data analysis


    Practical Microbiology (10 Credits)

    Date: 11th and 17-18th July 2012

    Tutor: Dr. Gabriela Juma (g.a.pinto-juma@swansea.ac.uk)

    Venue: Swansea University

    Hands on training in safely handing, analysing and disposing of microorganisms and a comprehensive overview of the biology of microbes.


    Molecular Techniques (10 Credits)

    Date: 31st July, 7-8th August 2012

    The course will provide background information and practical experience in techniques such as PCR, cloning and sequencing
