• How will I study?

Modules are designed to develop bioscience skills relevant to businesses and enable working people to carry out flexible learning. For these reasons most modules have a strong applied and practical bias and face-to-face training will be combined with some on-line distance learning.

A typical module will involve an initial induction in which the learner will meet their tutor, familiarise themselves with the on-line learning environment and benefit from meeting other work-based learners.

The delivery of each module will vary according to the subject, learners will experience a mixture of formal lectures, interactive workshops, tutorials and laboratory or field-based practicals. Learners will also benefit from access to our on-line learning environment in which they will find a wealth of learning resources, interactive exercises, multimedia tools and discussion boards.
Face-to-face training may be carried out at Swansea University or within partner institutions around Wales. Where there are sufficient participants in a single organisation, training may be provided at company premises depending on suitability.

  • Assessment

All modules are accredited through Swansea University and, therefore, will contain some aspect of formal assessment. The method of assessment will vary between modules, but generally there will be a combination of practical reports or essays on a topic; where possible, assessments can involve tasks undertaken as part of your job. Many modules will also contain non-assessed, on-line exercises helping learners to check their understanding and monitor their progress. The method of assessment is outlined for each module within this prospectus.
