Graduates are being encouraged to start new businesses because of a number of factors:

• Evidence from the USA, in particular, of potential for spinning companies out of higher education based on the specialist knowledge, skills and techniques which graduates have;
• An increasingly service-dominated economy;
• Growth in the influence of IT and telecommunications; regional economic development policies.

You are encouraged to consider starting a business if you have ideas or if you feel you have the appropriate skills; we have therefore provided information on getting started in your own business,  to provide you with material which will help you to explore the opportunities.

If you are a recent graduate (within the last three years), or soon to graduate and thinking of starting your own business, then you may be eligible to apply for a Dynamo bursary. You will also have access to a Business Mentor to help you compile your business plan.
