The Swansea Employability Award (SEA), www.sea.swansea.ac.uk

The Careers and Employability Team works in partnership with academic staff to provide opportunities for students  to develop their employability through many aspects of the student experience at Swansea University.

A degree is important for getting a great job, but employers look for much more than a degree when choosing which graduates to employ. Gaining experience and developing skills while you study and during vacation periods will give you a competitive edge.

But what exactly do you want to do when you graduate? What kind of work would suit you? Many types of work require you to have had some experience before you apply.

The SEA helps you to explore who you are and then gain experience and develop skills. If you complete the SEA it will be recorded on your Higher Education Achievement Record, HEAR.

There are two main modules to the SEA following registration. The first module is about finding out more about yourself: what you value in life, your personality type, learning styles, what jobs might suit you, then marketing yourself by creating a CV and covering letter. The module finishes with an interview with a Careers Adviser.

The second module is about getting experiences. These experiences may follow on from the first module or they may be general experiences and can be work experiences, volunteering, positions of responsibility, to name a few. Following the completion of these experiences you will have a mock job interview.

For each element of the two modules you need to record your experiences and thoughts in relation to your career plans.

Visit www.sea.swansea.ac.uk to find out more and register to participate in the SEA.

Looking for a job after you graduate?  Need work experience?
Want to earn money while you study

Visit the Jobs section of our site which includes:

  • Job vacancies for after graduation
  • Temporary part-time jobs
  • All kinds of paid and unpaid work experience opportunities.

GO Wales (Graduate Opportunities Wales) work experience:

GO Wales placements provide paid project-based work in both small and large companies, charitable organisations and public sector bodies based in Wales, together with the chance to gain the City & Guilds Professional Development Award.

GO Wales work tasters are unpaid, but may fill the gap where placements are not always possible – you may have an idea about the job and want to try it first. If you are interested in a GO Wales placement or work taster, contact Careers.
