Postgraduates

You can search for information on postgraduate study and research opportunities in the postgraduate study section of the Graduate Prospects website and view the latest advertised courses and research positions offered by Higher Education institutions.  You should also consider seriously the on-line applications system available from Graduate Prospects which is used by many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK.

Paper copies of the Prospects Postgraduate Directory are available for reference in Careers on Level 3 of the Library; there are editions for Arts and Humanities, Science and Engineering, and Business and Social Studies.

For detailed information about research interests you will need to look at the departmental pages on individual institutions' web sites, as each discipline usually has associated with it information on current research in the UK, and perhaps overseas.  For most postgraduate study opportunities it is recommended that you make direct enquiries to the HEI or to the specific department for information and application forms.  See Swansea University's postgraduate pages at www.swansea.ac.uk/postgraduate.

TARGETcourses is another valuable information source.

Some clearing houses produce their own lists of courses:

Note:  There is no longer a discrete, centralised system for applying for social work - applications for all degree qualifications (postgraduate and undergraduate) in social work should be made via the UCAS application system.

Courses and research studentships are advertised in many publications, key examples being:

The Guardian - the jobs section of the newspaper's website

New Scientist, mainly for scientists with some engineering

Times Higher Education Supplement

Graduate Prospects website:  Postgraduate courses database

Higher Education's own website, Jobs.ac.uk is also good for research studentships and assistantships.
