The Department of Childhood Studies, part of the School of Human Sciences, has now merged with the Centre for Child Research. Our BSc in Early Childhood Studies is extremely successful and highly regarded and alongside it we now have an MA in Childhood Studies.

This rapid expansion of taught courses is matched by an increase in research activity by staff and research students. Key areas of research focus are: inclusion, participation and children’s rights; young children, play and learning (including outdoor play); children, Information CommunicationsTechnology (ICT) and sustained shared thinking ; interagency and multidisciplinary working; and innovative research methods with children.
