MSc specialism in Web Science
The Web is growing, changing, evolving, and exciting - and its not surprising that many now study the Web as an entire discipline: Web Science.
The Web, however, is more than just computer science - it involves economics, law, sociology, information science, and more. The Web creates new possibilities, changes the way we communicate, gives a voice to the masses, and continues to change on a regular basis. Pioneered by MIT and Southampton, this topic is growing fast and Swansea will be the first in Wales, as well as one of the first in the UK, to teach Web Science.
This MSc, which specialises in Web Science, is designed to give students both a technological and interdisciplinary insight into evolving Web. Beyond learning web-based technologies, and developing research skills, students will take 40 credits provided by other disciplines in order to understand the opportunities and influences that arise beyond Computer Science. Students will then run an interdisciplinary project in their 3rd summer term.
The Advanced Masters in Web Science at Swansea University has a taught component (120 credits) that is accompanied by a substantial project (60 credits):
- The taught part provides lectures, lab-classes, practicals, and seminars, including 40 credits from other disciplines, on how to develop, validate, and verify systems for safety and security.
- The student applies and extends this body of knowledge in a substantial project, aiming to bridge 2 or more disciplines.
