Year 12 Summer University

The Year 12 Summer University is a free four week residential course Monday – Friday (or on a non residential basis if appropriate) aimed at Year 12 students studying for a Level 3 qualification in school or college in South West Wales.
Why give up 4 weeks of the Summer Holidays?
All Summer University students will enjoy a full and varied social programme all FREE of charge. Previous activities have included: bowling, cinema, football, basketball, karaoke, quiz nights, discos, dance workshops and much more!
Students who complete the Summer University successfully will be given a reduction in the required A-level grades (or equivalent) by Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan University This means that if the programme requirements are grades ABB at A-level, this will be reduced by two grades (e.g. the offer would be reduced to BBC or ACC, depending on the exact requirements for the relevant degree programme). Similarly a course asking for 300 UCAS points will ask for 260 UCAS points as long as a minimum of 80 UCAS points from 2 A-levels or equivalent are gained.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. Students can only benefit from one scheme offering a reduction in UCAS grade requirements. The scheme offering the highest reduction will be applied; and
2. If students are applying for professional degree programmes, the UCAS point reduction may not apply as the entry requirements for many professional degree programmes are determined in consultation with external professional bodies.
The programme consists of:
Students choose ONE subject to study over the four weeks that is in line with their current studies. The subjects on offer vary each year. All students also learn essential skills for success in Higher Education including writing and presentation skills, critical thinking, research and referencing skills and time management.
