Working with Industry

Staff within the Sport and Exercise Research Centre (SESRC) have well-established links with a number of organisations and other universities and including Diabetes UK, the Sugar Bureau, Ospreys RFC, University of Wales Institute Cardiff, University of Glamorgan, Swansea NHS Trust, and Carmarthenshire NHS Trust. Sources of externally-funded research in SESRC include the Welsh Office for Research and Development.

Sport & Exercise Science is based within the School of Engineering. Main areas of commercial activity are physical activity-related enrichment of health and enhancement of sport performance. Expertise is within the sub-disciplines of Physiology, Psychology and Biomechanics, with increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary research. The group utilises quantitative and qualitative techniques to evaluate acute and chronic effects of physical activity on movement patterns, physiological function, health outcomes and sporting performance. Capacity exists within professional services, product design, product testing and health. Current and potential industrial partners include nutritional suppliers, producers of medical products, and professional sports teams.
