European Social Fund (ESF) Access to Taught Masters Bursaries
We have a limited number of fully-funded bursaries available in the following programmes:
Each bursary includes home/EU tuition fees plus £5060 living expenses. Funding for support consumables is also available.
Eligibility:
- Only Masters applicants from the UK or EU will be eligible
- Applicants should hold (or be expecting to achieve) a minimum of a 2.1 degree (or equivalent)
- You will be automatically considered for an award once you have applied for one of the above programmes and have been offered a place
Closing date: 23 July 2010. Applicants must ensure that their application for a place to study on one of the above programmes has been received by this date.
If you have not yet applied for a place to study on one of the above programmes, you should complete a Postgraduate Application Form as soon as possible.

NERC PhD Studentships
The School has been awarded two fully-funded NERC PhD studentships. Closing date for applications is 19 March 2010.

SOTEAS International Taught Postgraduate Bursaries
The School has a number of International Taught Postgraduate Bursaries available to new non-EU students for the 2009/2010 academic session.
Each bursary is worth £4000 and will be off-set against tuition fees.

Eligibility:
- Applicants must be non-EU resident and nationals of non-EU countries.
- Applicants must have received and accepted an offer (Conditional or Unconditional) to study on one of the taught postgraduate programmes offered in the School of the Environment & Society: MSc Aquaculture & the Environment; MSc Environmental Biology: Conservation & Resource Management; MSc Environmental Dynamics & Climatic Change; MSc Social Development & Conflict; MSc Social Development & Communication; MSc Development & Human Rights; MSc Migration & International Development; MSc Social Development Policy & Management; and MSc Social Research;
- Applicants will be judged against three criteria: academic qualifications and ability; post-qualification or professional experience; financial need and ability to use the bursary to secure funding from other sources.

- Applicants must provide a full CV and complete a Bursary Application Form.
- Applications will be assessed by the School Postgraduate Committee
- Decisions will be notified by 31 May 2009
- To qualify for the award, students must enrol for the 2008/2009 academic session

The CDS Nawal Al Sharif Scholarship
The scholarships commemorates Nawal Al Sharif, a friend of the University and a highly respected colleague on the University's Jordanian projects for a number of years before her death in 2001. The Nawal Al Sharif scholarship is for:
- a maximum award of £10,000 made annually (the size of the award will be adjusted for part-time/mixed mode study)
- study for the MSc or MPhil (in exceptional cases PhD candidates may apply) in the Centre for Development Studies
You can apply for the Nawal Al Sharif scholarship if:
- you are a national or resident of Jordan or Palestine
- you have been accepted on your proposed course of study
- you can demonstrate additional funding
- you have a background in social development in the region
Applications must provide full CV and a statement (max 1000 words) on how they would intend to use the opportunity to study in CDS to further social development in Jordan and in the Palestinian territories.
