Eurodendro 2009: Developments, Advances, Challenges.

We are pleased to announce that the next Eurodendro meeting will be held in Cala Millor, Mallorca, Spain. We hope that this meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss exciting advances that have been made in tree-ring research, to consider the principal challenges and research questions we currently face and the ways in which our field can address them. The emphasis is on discussion, interaction and participation as a scientific community through lectures, poster presentations and working groups.

The hotel is approximately a 1 hour drive from Mallorca’s airport.

Bus transfers will be provided at 12pm, 4pm and 11pm on the day of arrival and at 6am, 12pm and 4pm on the day of departure. Outside of these times delegates will have to arrange their own transportation to and from the hotel. We suggest using Mallorca Airport Transfers.

Presentations

Those wishing to present an oral and/or poster to Eurodendro 2009 should first submit an abstract. All accepted abstracts will be reproduced as a bound volume for conference participants. To assist this process, please follow the guidelines for submission closely. The deadline for abstracts is 30th June 2009. The conference will include both oral presentations and poster sessions. Poster sessions will be organised to include a short introduction by each presenter and are held in a large and light gallery. The programme will allow for adequate time and space for informal discussions to develop around the posters. You are asked to select your preference for either an oral presentation or poster when you register. Where the programme permits, we will endeavour to accommodate all delegates wishing to make oral presentations, however if this is not possible, those requesting oral presentations will be given the opportunity to present their work as a poster.

Oral presentations:

The oral presentations are scheduled for 15 minutes talk followed by time for discussion. An LCD-projector (video beamer) and large screen are available. Presentations should be uploaded prior to arrival to the conference, details to follow. Speakers and session chairs will be asked to adhere strictly to the timetable. If you are willing to chair a session, please indicate so on your registration form.

Poster presentations:

Poster should not exceed the A1-format (594 x 841 mm) in portrait form. We will provide material for mounting. All posters will be introduced orally through a short 1 minute “research snapshot” prior to each session. Please provide on arrival a single summary slide as a powerpoint image or .pdf file to accompany your introduction if required. The poster session will be held in the Sa Maniga gallery so there should be plenty of space. After the introductions, we request that authors remain with their posters to enable discussion and questions from Eurodendro delegates. A prize will be given to the best student poster.

Eurodendro 2009......

is organised by the Tree Ring Group at Swansea University with assistance from Jonathan LaGeard of the Manchester Metropolitan University Dendrochronology Laboratory. The Swansea Group are primarily interested in the development of the tree ring archive as a tool in reconstructing past environmental change with special reference to stable isotope dendroclimatology. Swansea currently lead the EU Project Millennium which aims to reconstruct climate variability during the last 1,000 years using a multi-proxy approach. Many European tree ring laboratories are members of this consortium contributing ring-width, relative density, height increment and stable isotopic data to this innovative climate modelling experiment.
