Student Papers

This is a selection of material submitted since 2004 in partial fulfilment of assessment requirements on my level 2 module on Ancient Technology and Engineering at Swansea University. This exercise is an optional practical, for which the major part of the exercise is to build or make something using (as far as possible) ancient methods and materials. The students present their work to the rest of the class, and these texts are merely the write up or notes that they produced to accompany the work.

S Tanis Ancient Food Production

L Whiteley A Roman Republic Shield

S Zucchini The revolving boom crane of Vitruvius 10.2.10

In 2007 K Greenhill made one of Heron's pneumatic trick devices (the bird at the front drinks when presented with liquid); D Juler made the bits that mattered of Archimedes' hodometer.
