Front page

We provide top-quality tuition to undergraduate and postgraduate students, receiving an Excellent in the last Teaching Quality Assessment, and are a rapidly growing, research-led department. In the 2008 RAE, 5% of our research was judged to be world leading (4*), 30% Internationally excellent (3*) and 45% Internationally recognised (2*). We currently have 24 full-time members of academic staff. Through continuous investment in research infrastructure and by expanding staffing levels, we plan to further support our research achievement.

Study at Swansea

Our students benefit from instruction by internationally recognized researchers, excellent teaching facilities, and a friendly campus community. The University buildings, and many halls of residence, are conveniently located in a single, friendly campus. An increasing percentage of our students now come from overseas, indicating Swansea’s growing academic reputation.

Research at Swansea

Our research covers four themes:

Since 2001, we have published more than 200 papers and secured extensive funding from the ESRC, the EPSRC, the Nuffield foundation, the British Academy, the Leverhulme foundation, the FAR6 EU funding scheme, and the Welsh Assembly, amongst others. Swansea is also part of the Wales Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (WICN), a research initiative to improve access to a wide range of neuro-imaging facilities. Other constituent members of WICN are Cardiff and Bangor Universities. WICN is supported by HEFCW to the level of about £5 million.
