Summer Programmes

Our Summer Programmes offer students the opportunity to gain valuable experience abroad during the summer holidays.  These programmes are suited to students who are not able to go abroad as part of their degree, or for those who prefer to spend shorter periods away.

Where Can I go?

China - Choose from diverse cultural programmes running in Dalian, Harbin, Weihai or Chongqing. You will have a chance to learn about Chinese customs and cultural differences. For more information click here.

India - We work in partnership with St. Joseph's College of Commerce (SJCC) in the centre of Bangalore, known as the silicon valley of India. For more information click here.

USA:

Oklahoma - A professional work place observations in the field of Law and Criminal Justice. For more information click here.

Colorado - A hands-on media course in ‘New Communication Technologies ‘. For more informationclick here.

Europe:

France - Students can choose from a variety of programmes all taught in English. Choose from Loire valley city of Angers, Paris. or Rennes in the east of Brittany. For more information click here.

Switzerland - The University of Geneva run 6 courses taught in English, approximate dates mid june to early July (courses cost 2300 Swiss francs - approx £1500, excluding accommodation, travel etc).  Please visit their website for more information on all of the above courses.

Germany:
Berlin - Freie Universitat Berlin -
Choice of German Language (taught at 5 levels of proficiency) and subject classes (eg. European Studies, Governing Climate Change, Business & Management, Art History, ...). For full details please visit their website

Bucerius Law School (Hamburg) - International Business Law - Course fees 1800 Euro (approx £1500) excluding accommodation, travel etc. For more information visit their website

Universitat Mannheim - a course which combines 'Campus, Companies and Culture' and three independent modules are available. The programme fee for one module is 890 euros. Please visit their website for more information.

Universitat Mannheim - a course in 'Current Challenges - Multilingualism and Cultural Diversity'. This is a FREE programme and only a small registration fee will be charged. For full details please visit their website

Spain:
Madrid - Universidad de Pontificia Comillas
- Spanish Language and Culture, aimed at students with an intermediate level of Spanish. Program runs from 20 May to 14 June. Cost is 950 Euro (approx £800) which includes course fees and excursions. Accommodation and travel extra. Please visit their website for more information.

University of Salamanca - Language Courses - from beginner through to advanced levels. Cost depends on length of course selected and number of hours per week. (Eg. a 4 week course with 15 hours per week costs 780 Euros - approx £650 excluding accommodation and travel). For more information visit their website

Netherlands - Maastricht School of Management - a two week programme with a variety of subjects on offer. The average course fee is 700 euros. Please visit their website for more information. 

Application

How to Apply

Students must complete the application form and submit along with a reference to the IDO studyabroad@swansea.ac.uk

The reference is to be submitted with the application form.  It must be from an academic at Swansea University, or from an academic from your previous institution if necessary.

Cost & Funding

The cost of each individual programme varies. Please check the specific programme details for full details.  Programme costs are subject to exchange rate fluctuations, cost will be confirmed March 2013. 

IDO bursaries: A maximum of £500 per student is available, however you will not be able to apply for more than half the total cost of your chosen summer programme. Additional financial assistance of up to £200 will be available to students who qualify for widening participation bursaries.
