Students are required to take a maximum of 60 credits per semester (15 US credits), that totals 120 credits for the full academic year (30 US). Most UWS modules are worth 20 or 10 credits.
When choosing a module please take note which Teaching Block (TB) it is offered in:
TB1 = Fall
TB2 = Spring
NB. When a module is offered as TB1+TB2 this means it is a full year course NOT that is offered in both, only full academic year students can therefore take this course.
Do not select level M modules because these are graduate level, e.g., EN-M03 and are NOT open to exchange and visiting students.
Due to course restrictions some modules in some departments are not available to exchange students. Please see the module catalogue for full details.
Please take note of the assessment requirements when choosing module - American Student please note that some departments require you to be in the UK for the assessment period in January.
Assessment will vary between and within Departments.
When you are selecting a module from the catalogue it will state the type of assessment that the module involves (essay / exam or combination of both) and the module outline. Please only choose modules that you are able to complete all the assessment criteria for*.
It is the student’s responsibility to confirm the dates for essays deadlines and exams.
Guidance will be given at orientation and there is a two week add/ drop period at the beginning of each semester when students will be able to change modules if necessary.
*US Fall Semester Students
Traditionally students visiting Swansea University in the Fall will be assessed by essay which MUST be submitted prior to departure at the end of term. However, students enrolled on modules in the following departments must be physically present in Swansea to sit the examinations in January:
Business; Computer Science; Engineering; Economics; Mathematics
Spring Semester Students
Students attending classes at Swansea University in the spring will be required to submit essays by the course deadlines and MUST sit exams during the designated exam period in May / June.
