Swansea Presessional
Course Description:
This interdisciplinary pre-sessional programme provides students with an introduction to major themes, events and personalities which have shaped social, cultural and political development of the United Kingdom since the end of World War Two. Social and cultural issues will be analysed through British literature, films and popular culture. The British political system will be discussed and will analyse political parties, the monarchy, devolution, nationalism and Britain's relationship with Europe.
Dates:
The two week programme is offered twice a year as a late summer pre-sessional programme in early September before the start of the Autumn semster or for students commencing study during the second semester in January.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this module the student is expected to
Have a comprehensive understanding of Britain's political and cultural experience since 1945.
Engage critically in debate surrounding major issues in British politics since 1945.
Engage critically with significant post-war cultural texts.
Assessment:
1 essay 2,500 words

Housing:
Students attending the late summer pre-sessional programme in September will stay on campus for the duration of the course and will then move to their pre-arranged term time accommodation at the end of the session. Students attending the January session move directly into their term-time accommodation.

Pre-Sessional English Language & Study Skills
Course Description:
This course is for students who want to improve their general level of English and gain experience of academic study in English before starting your study programme. There are two course options available, please visit: http://www.swan.ac.uk/elts/presessional-programmes/
During the course students will:
- develop their English Language and academic study skills
- discover British life and culture
- become familiar with the British academic environment before starting their programme of study in Swansea
- work towards a widely recognised Cambridge English examination certificate
