BioMed Central provides free access to refereed online journals in Biological Sciences and Medicine.
BioMed Central is part of a wider movement by universities here and in the US to make scientific research freely available on the internet. It works by charging authors to submit their papers then making them freely available to readers. Membership has been paid for centrally in the UK by JISC, a joint committee of the UK Higher Education funding bodies so UK academics can submit papers free of charge to BioMed Central journals.
