ISS & your Literature Review

The Library is able to help when you start to search for information for your literature review. Contact your Subject Team to discuss appropriate search techniques and suitable resources.

You may be conducting a review of the literature to justify a proposed study, to uncover patterns of findings in the field, to enter into academic debate or to discover gaps in the current knowledge that may lead to future research. to get started in your search the following may help: Finding Journal Articles; Finding Official Publications ; Finding Theses ( Index to Theses guide ).

You will need to access a wide range of relevant databases and sources of information. See the Subject Information pages for links to all subscription databases available via the library for your subjet area.

The Inter-Library Loans Service allows you to obtain material required for research or private study that is not held by Library & Information Services. All staff and registered students can use the Inter-Library Loans Service subject to the approval of their department.

You may need to consult other library collections for your literature review. Other Library Catalogues gives links to local, national and worldwide academic collection catalogues. There are local agreements and national schemes in place which allow physical access to other library collections see Visiting Other Libraries for more information.

When it comes to recording your references accurately and consistently your Subject Team can advise on bibliographic referencing and how to manage your references using the Endnote reference management system.

For tips on how to keep up-to-date with information, organisations, resources etc in your area of research see our Keeping Research up to date guide guide.
