The Library & Information Centre has faced a worsening space problem over the last decade. Since 1996, we have had to find space for an additional 150,000 books and journals, the equivalent of nearly three kilometres of additional shelf space.
Rather than discard low-use items which could still be valuable for research, we have leased a large warehouse in Fforestfach as a Library Store. Most other research-led universities have set up a similar facility.
You can access items held in the Library Store in two ways:
1. Requests via iFind Discover: If you come across any items in the library catalogue which are held in the Store, please fill in the simple request form. Complete as many details as you can on the form. Note that you can order a run of journals on a single request form.
Your requests will then be delivered the next working day. You can arrange for them to be delivered to the branch of ISS which is most convenient for you (either the Library & Information Centre, or South Wales Miners’ Library) by completing this option on the request form.
2. Photocopies: Alternatively, you can order photocopies of articles from journals held in the Store. To do this, please fill in as much detail as you can on the “Request a Journal/Journal Article” which appears when you click on the catalogue record of any journal held in the Store. In the “How would you like to receive this item” field, click on the “Please post this photocopy to me” option. As with the DALLAS service, the cost of any photocopying done (10p per A4 sheet) will be added to your library account, which can then be settled at your convenience the next time you are in the Library & Information Centre.
Note that the usual Copyright Act restrictions apply. A copyright declaration form will be sent to you for you to sign and only one article per journal issue can be copied.
