Photocopying and Printing

Information on photocopying, and on printing from open access PCs

Copycards

Students

Student ID cards can be used as a photocopy /print card. Before using it for photocopying or printing, you need to put credit on your card  (either coins or notes). Recharging machines are available on Level 2 West (near the women's toilets) and on the gallery on Level 4 and in branch libaries.

Staff
Staff can charge copying back to their department with a staff print card. To obtain one, complete the form available at the IT support helpdesk, which will then need to be authorised with a financial code by your department.

Visitors
Copycards to operate ISS photocopiers and laser printers can be bought from the issue desks in all branches. A refundable Copycard costs £3.00 and must be charged before use. Credit is placed on the card by inserting it in a Recharging machine and inserting coins (20p, 50p £1 and £2) or notes. The cards can be returned after use for a full refund.

Photocopying

Location

There are self-service photocopiers in each library, including a colour photocopier on Level 2 West of LIC (near the women's toilet.) They are operated with rechargeable cards (see above). These can also be used for all open access laser printers and for the microform reader/printer in the LIC. They can also be used with the photocopiers in the Students Union.

Watch a brief video about Photocopying in the Library (headphones are available to purchase at the Issue Desk).

OHP Transparenices

Self-service copying onto OHP transparencies is not available because of the damage caused to the photocopiers by unsuitable transparencies. ISS staff provide an OHP photocopying service: ask at the Information Desk in the LIC or the Issue Desk in other libraries. Suitable transparencies are available in each library and cost 32p each (including the cost of the photocopy). Please do not put transparencies bought elsewhere into ISS photocopiers.

Printing in Open Access

Printing your document

Select File / Print on your PC. You may need to select a printer - The printer in your area is not always selected by default. However if you wish to use the Colour Printer, please see below.
Go over to the laser printer (there is one in every open access PC area). On the PC next to the printer you will see a list of usernames. Find your username and click on it with the mouse. It will then be highlighted and you can click OK. You will then be asked for a password, this is the same password you used to log into the open access PC. Enter your password and click OK.
You will now see a list of documents sent by you. Highlight the document you wish to print and click the print button on the top left hand corner of the screen. A new window will appear confirming your choice. Click the ‘print now’ button.Next you will be asked for a ‘smart card’. This is the plastic print card as described above. Insert your card into the value box next to the printer. The valuer will then deduct the necessary fee from your smart card and display your new balance. Your document will now print, and your smart card will pop out of the valuer automatically. You can also find these instructions in brief next to every printer in the Library and Information Centre.

Colour Printing

A colour printer is available in the Study Hall in the Library and Information Centre. You can send your work to this printer by using the instructions as described above, but instead of accepting the default printer you should click the box next to the printer choice and select the other option which starts with “P_iHPColour”. Your work will now be directed to the PC attached to the colour printer.
