Reserving books and other items
After searching on the library catalogue, iFind Discover for the book or other item that you want, if the item is out on loan (charged) the following procedure should be followed:
A message on iFind Discover will show NO COPIES AVAILABLE - CHECK ITEM DETAILS for OPTIONS. By clicking on ITEM DETAILS it will be possible to place a request on the book.
Placing a request ensures a copy of the book on loan will be returned to the library, however the due date shown may not be the date when the book will be returned.
When the book is returned to the library an email will be sent to the student who has placed the request and the book kept on the reservation shelf at the Issue Desk for up to 7 days. If the book is not collected it will be issued to the next student in the reservations queue, or returned to the shelves if there is no queue.
A request cannot be placed if, according to iFind there is a copy available on the shelves, even if the book cannot be found ( the book may be with a student who is using it in the library). A request cannot be placed if a student already has a copy of the book on their card, even if a request has been placed on that book.
A maximum of 5 requests can be placed at one time, and if the number exceeds 5 an automatic STOP will be put on the student’s card so that no books can be borrowed or renewed. If a book with a request is not returned on the date requested, not only will it accrue fines from that date, but an automatic STOP will also be put on the card.
Any questions concerning the reservation procedure should be asked at the Issue Desk and library staff will help.
Document Supply
If a book cannot be found on iFind because a copy is not kept at the library a request can be made via Document Supply to borrow a copy of that book from another library. As there is a charge for this service requests have to be approved by an authorised member of the academic department who will pay for the request.
