INSTITUTE OF MASS SPECTROMETRY

Swansea University has long been established as a centre of excellence for mass spectrometry, with the siting of the Royal Society Research Unit here in the 1970’s followed by the Mass Spectrometry Research Unit and then the EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Centre in the 1980s.  Currently there are thirteen academic and support staff, eight of whom are wholly supported by direct research council funding. IMS core activities include research programmes involving more than a dozen Swansea postgraduates and postdoctoral workers. Through the facility, the research of Biological Sciences and the Medical School staff is also supported by collaborative and contract support research programmes.
