The Swansea Legal Practice Course is a practical one year course that will equip you with the practice skills and confidence for a successful career in law in England and Wales. A unique feature of our LPC is the opportunity to extend your study and attain a Masters in Legal Practice & Advanced Drafting. The course is offered full-time and is supported by a dedicated team of professional legal practitioners with first-class facilities which includea state-of-the-art interactive advocacy suite, lecture theatre and a dedicated practitioner Resource Room with full network access toextensive electronic legal practitioner resources. Students at Swansea also participate in the Swansea Pro Bono Law Clinic run by law studentsunder the supervision of qualified practitioners and take advantage of valuable networking opportunities.

By the end of the course you will:
Compulsory subjects
Within these subjects you will learn more about EU Law and Human Rights. In addition, you will be introduced to professional conduct, financial and accounting issues and business / commercial awareness.

In the final 12 weeks of the course you are able to choose three of the following elective subjects:
Electives
Immigration and Asylum Law & Practice Students benefit from the School’s strong local and national links with the legal profession. Many of our students have undertaken work experience placements at these firms and secured training contracts with them.
We have an established Easter Vacation Work experience Programme that assists students to in finding placements at local courts and practitioners including large commercial practices.
A qualifying lower second class honours degree in law from a UK or recognised overseas university.
A Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE or a similar qualification such as FILEX
In order to study on an LPC you must be a student member of the Law Society and have a certificate of academic standing. Applicants should apply to the Solicitors Regulation Authority to become a student member and for their certificate of academic standing as soon as possible before starting the LPC. You cannot enroll on a course without them.

The LPC is a practical course, focusing on building your confidence and experience as a trainee practitioner of law. Assessment is by way of written subject assessments and assessment of skills. There is an opportunity for you to extend your study and attain a Masters in Legal Practice and Advanced Drafting.

Assessment is by way of written subject assessments held mainly at the end of the compulsory (March) and elective teaching periods (June). Throughout the first teaching period, you will have mock assessments and will also be assessed in skills. These enable you to build in confidence and prepare for the end of module assessments, whilst also providing valuable feedback and an early indication of performance (enabling you to be proactive when applying for a training contract).
