The Welsh Philosophical Society

(founded in 1964)

 

The official Minute Book of the Society begins with the following statement: "The Welsh Philosophical Society was formed by Professor J. L. Evans and Mr D.Z. Phillips in 1964. The Society is intended to provide an opportunity for teachers of philosophy in the University of Wales and associated Colleges to meet for discussion. Teachers who leave the University and guest philosophers at the Society may be invited to become Friends of the Society".

The Society's annual staff colloquium is now in its 38th year and, much to the delight of its members, continues to be held in the splendid surroundings of Gregynog Hall, the University's conference centre in North Wales (see for yourself from the photographs on this page).

The format of the weekend colloquium now consists of four - previously three - academic presentations, each of which is  followed by discussion. Participants include staff members from Cardiff, Lampeter, and Swansea, as well as a considerable number of Friends of the Society and some postgraduates from within the University of Wales.
