Professor Timothy Claypole awarded MBE in New Year's Honours List

Professor Timothy Claypole of a Centre Director of the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating (WCPC) based within Swansea University's School of Engineering has been made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Graphic Arts Research. The announcement was made in the 2010 Queen's New Year's Honours List.

For the last 19 years the WCPC has explored the fundamental science underpinning all the printing and coating applications.  This knowledge has been translated into an understandable and useful format allowing the industry to gain productivity and quality improvement. The MBE is the latest accolade for Professor Claypole, in 2008, he was awarded the TAGA Michael H Bruno Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the international graphic arts industry, and in 2009 received an award from EFTA for his outstanding contribution to flexographic printing.  Also in 2009, under Professor Claypole's leadership, the WCPC won the prestigious EU 2009 Regiostar for technology for its ERDF "DIPLE" project, which transfers technology into the Welsh printing industry.
