This £2.1M project was part funded by
European Regional Development Fund and over £70,000 in match funding from
industry. The aim of the project was to generate case studies of best practice
in industry within the Objective 1 areas of Wales.
The final review by independent industry consultant, Nigel
Wells of Virtual Marketing (Paris, France), took place during March. The project
was considered worthwhile and successful with the project targets exceeded:
-
118 collaborative projects between the Centre and industry.
-
169 instances of advice on Innovation and R&D.
-
Project helped to safeguard 170 jobs .
The increase in turnover of partner companies was used as another milestone,
the combined increase of the companies involved was £4 million exceeding the
target value by 25%.
Norman Faulkner of Cambrian Printers provided this feedback. “WCPC resources
go above and beyond what we can achieve ourselves. They are a credible and
independent support in the face of international suppliers of complex technology
who declare something ‘is not my problem’. Their reports provide a lot of detail
but with clear conclusions to allow confident practical implementation. Their
information is valid to assist management decision making and understandable for
our workers, and has assisted in the change of attitudes and habits for the
better. In addition, their fast reaction time is important. WCPC has assisted us
to reduce costly printed waste and its corresponding energy. Their VOC breath
testing and noise measurement assessment has allowed us to better understand
these risks and make improvements to minimise them.”
Professor Tim
Claypole said:
"Graphics
printing is still a major economic driver in Wales. The DIPLE project
allowed us to apply our World leading science in printing technology for
the benefit of small businesses in Wales. This would not have been
possible without the support we received from European structural
funds."
