"How diverse is the UK?"

Thursday 24th November 2011
Time: 4:00-5.15pm
Wallace 222 (Geog LT)

Tea, Coffee and Welshcakes will be available in the foyer area on the first floor of the Wallace Building from 3.30pm.

Lucinda Platt is Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Education, where she is also the Director and Principal Investigator of the Millennium Cohort Study. Lucinda was previously at the Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex where much of her research was connected to the analysis of longitudinal data as well as with development work on the Understanding Society survey. This is an important new dataset which has recently been available to academics and offers considerable research possibilities for academics from a wide range of disciplines. Lucinda’s talk will be based around the dataset and in particular she will be discussing how it can be used to examine the ethnic diversity of the UK population by utilising some of the interesting questions that have been asked in the survey.
