Swansea's physicists Prof. Biagio Lucini and Dr. Maurizio Piai and Edinburgh-based Prof. Luigi Del Debbio are organising the workshop on "Strongly interacting dynamics beyond Standard Model and the Higgs boson" at The Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics in Edinburgh.
This workshop brings together renowned experts from different areas of Particle Physics with a common interest in strongly interacting dynamics beyond the standard model as a mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. More
Dr Aditee Mitra, Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research in the University’s Department of Biosciences, recently presented her research at the Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research (IMBER)-IMBIZO III meeting in Goa on how the oceans are swarming with microscopic Triffids. Aditee co-leads a Leverhulme International Network unravelling the secrets of these mixotrophic microbes. More
Ben Spencer and Mark W. Jones have again won the Computer Graphics Forum cover competition.
The winning image will be used throughout 2013 as the front cover image of the journal Computer Graphics Forum. The image shows a visualisation of the parameter space of photon trajectory from the emitting light source. When encoded into the photon map, this can be used to distinguish overlapping light envelopes typically associated with caustics. More
Chloe Barnes a BSc Geography student undertook the Level 3 Geography/Biology fieldtrip to Sikkim, India in the autumn. Her project focused on the urban heat island of Gangtok and the influence of vegetation on urban temperatures. More
Congratulations to Miss Malgorzata (Gosia) Swietlik for winning the 2012/13 Pricewaterhousecoopers Prize. This prize worth £500 is awarded annually for the best Level 2 performance by a student in the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics. Gosia is now in her third year of the four year MMath Mathematics programme.
The College of Science brings science to life through globally excellent and impactful research, passionate hands-on teaching and two-way engagement with the business community to share a vision in which science plays a significant role in the understanding and shaping of our world today.
