Specialist Subjects: Operations Management, Performance Measurement and Evaluation, Tourism Studies.
Prof. Bischoff was born in 1953 in Wiesbaden, Germany. After pursuing studies in Mathematics and Economics at Mainz University, he transferred to the University of Wales Swansea where he obtained an M.Sc. in the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering. Soon afterwards he joined the staff of that Department as a research assistant and in 1977 progressed to a lectureship in Management Science. Prof. Bischoff now holds the Chair of Management Science at the School of Business and Economics. He was responsible for developing the School's MBA Programme and was its first MBA Course Director. Between 1998 and 2000 he was Director of the School.
During his career Prof. Bischoff has had a number of appointments at other institutions, for instance the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Austria, and the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He has undertaken consultancy work for various companies, including Unilever Research and Brooke Bond Oxo. Prof. Bischoff has been active in initiatives concerning the development of international study programmes and for three years acted as Chairman of the European Master of Business Sciences Consortium. His publications cover a variety of different areas of Management Science, such as Non-linear Optimisation, Multiple Criteria Decision-Making and Industrial Cutting and Packing Problems. The latter area has been the main focus of his research in recent years.
Current Research Interests: Two-and-three-dimensional cutting and packing problems, data envelopment analysis, general OR applications.
