Specialist Subjects: My primary teaching and research interests were in the area of information technology, and included multimedia applications, telematics and computer-assisted learning.

I joined the School of Business and Economics in 1994. Before that, I was a Senior Lecturer in the School of European Languages (Department of French), appointed in 1966.I retired in June 2006.

My primary teaching and research interests were in the area of information technology, and included multimedia applications, telematics and computer-assisted learning. However, I continued throughout my career to research and publish in the area of French literature, culture and in linguistics (see my publications page). I am still an active researcher.

In 1993, I helped found the Association for Learning Technology (http://www.alt.ac.uk/), and for nine years was Editor then Executive Editor of its journal, ALT-J. Before that, I was Joint-Editor of the journal Interactive Multimedia.

I directed and was otherwise been involved in a considerable number of European-funded projects related to modern languages, multimedia and e-learning.

I was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2003.

I am currently in the USA as an Honorary Research Scholar at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
