  • May 2008-April 2011 Lead Academic Supervisor on a research programme concerned with social support amongst post-conflict communities in the Peruvian Andes funded by a British Aacdemy Research Development Award (BARDA).
  • June 2004-January 2005 Member of advisory team (Peru/Bolivia) for the Department for International Development funded review of Faith Groups in Poverty Reduction
  • 2004-2005 Researcher on a multidisciplinary programme of work into Global Health sponsored by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (Peru)
  • 2001-2003 Member of advisory team (Peru) for the Department for International Development funded Participatory Rights Assessment Methodologies piloting rights assessment approaches with country partners
  • 1989-1997 Regional Manager, Latin America Health Unlimited, London. I was responsible for the management and development of primary health care programmes for: Aymara Indians in the altiplano, department of La Paz, Bolivia; Rainforest Indians and rubber tappers in Western Acre and Southern Amazonas, Western Amazonia, Brazil; Rainforest Indians in the Rio Negro, North Eastern Amazonia, Brazil; Rural communities in the departments of Pando and Beni, Bolivia; Quechua Indians in the department of Ayacucho, Peru; Rural communities in the RAAN, Nicaragua; Rural communities in the department of Chalatenango, El Salvador; Maya Indians in the departments of Totonicapan and Quiche, Western Guatemala, Rural communities in the department of San Miguel, El Salvador
    I was also responsible for:
    Development and implementation of family planning programmes for Indians and rubber tappers based in Western Acre, Brazil and rural communities in Northern Bolivia.
    Research and management of feasibility studies for rural communities in the departments of Cuscatlan, Cabanas, Sonsonate, Chalatenango, San Salvador, San Miguel, El Salvador
    Research and feasibility studies for primary health care programmes for Indian and peasant communities in conflict affected areas of the department of Chiapas, Mexico
    Research and development of an extension programme for Mayan  Indians in the departments of Totonicapan and Quiche, Guatemala
    Research and development of an extension programme for peasant communities in Nicaragua (North Atlantic coast)
    Research and development of an extension programme for peasant communities in the departments of Pando and the Beni, Bolivia.
    Research and feasibility studies for primary health care programmes in Eastern Paraguay, Southern Guyana, Guanajuato, Mexico, the states of Maranhao and Para, Brazil and Central Belize
    Organisation of annual conferences in Costa Rica for Latin America Country managers working for Health Unlimited (workshops on gender and development; accounting; organisational policy; partner organisations; management and administration; traditional medicine and sustainable health care).
    Participation and presentation of papers in ODA conference on health and the environment in the Amazon, Brasilia, Brazil (1991); PAHO conference on World Bank and UN collaboration with NGOs in Washington (1991); AIM conference on healthcare in the Amazon, Santarem, Brazil (1994); EU conference on NGOs in Panama City (1994).
