The excellence of our research work is also internationally recognised and this is reflected in the continuous achievement of 5* rating - the highest possible - achieved in the national Research Assessment Exercise. This will qualify the department for the 6* designation now being applied in the English rating system.

The study of Aerospace Engineering prepares students for the design, analysis, and testing of aerospace vehicles - including satellites, space stations and launch vehicles, as well as propeller-driven, and jet-powered airplanes, helicopters and gliders.

Students in this field are usually motivated by an interest in aeronautics or astronautics. They must be innovative, possess analytical minds and have a mechanical aptitude. Communication skills are also important for teamwork.

Standard Entry requirements

MEng: AAA-AAB at A level (including Mathematics and a Science or Technology subject), or 34 at IB (including at least 5 at HL Mathematics).

BEng: ABB-BBB at A level (including Mathematics and a Science or Technology subject), or 32 at IB (including at least 4 at HL Mathematics). Students studying for BTEC qualifications will also require A level Mathematics at B grade for level 1 entry.

If you do not have these qualifications, you can consider applying for the Integrated Foundation Year scheme, H101.

Students with industrial experience and qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you are applying for Level Two (second year) entry, in order to be considered, you will need to have already covered the topics offered in Swansea at Level One in a certified qualification, with a high overall score.

Accreditation

The courses are accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS).

The accreditation is based on regular, rigorous reviews of our course content and delivery by the Professional Bodies. This means, that after a degree from the School of Engineering and structured industrial training, our graduates can aim for the prized "Chartered Engineer" status. This gives our graduates valuable experience, whilst adding to their qualifications, status and career prospects.
