Swansea University - Student Loans

Student Loans

Information for undergraduate students.

Student Loans are calculated after you have been accepted to study on a course and before you arrive at University. We would expect you to have already applied for your loan before arriving to take up your place to study. If you encounter financial difficulties or require advice on money matters, check out the Student Support Services website.

Support for living costs for UK students will be supported almost entirely by means-tested, income-contingent loans.  Once your application for financial support has been assessed, your Local Education Authority will inform you and the Student Loans Company of the amount of loan, fee and any supplementary grant you are entitled to.

You must advise the Student Loans Company of the amount you wish to borrow.  The Company arranges for your cheque to be at the University for the first day of term.

Occasionally it may be that your first loan instalment is delayed especially if your application was made late in the cycle. If so you can gain temporary financial assistance from the University.
