Eisteddfod and other events

Representation on national platforms

Academi Hywel Teifi represents and promotes the University on national platforms. During events staff are available to answer any questions that young people have about their university choices, together with all the University's Welsh medium educational and support provision.

National Eisteddfod

null

Academi Hywel Teifi was launched during the National Eisteddfod at Ebbw Vale in 2010 by Huw Edwards in the presence of Leighton Andrews AM, Education Minister and Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones AM, attracting extensive publicity. The Hywel Teifi Memorial Lecture was established at that Eisteddfod and has now become a highlight for the Swansea University program at the Eisteddfod. Academi Hywel Teifi is responsible for organising, co-ordinating and promoting the program, as well as developing and experimenting with the methods of maintaining the University's presence on the Field.

Since 2010 an annual event is held for staff, alumni and friends of the University with the Vice Chancellor and lead staff addressing the reception. As well as staff, other prominent Friends of the Academi such as Huw Edwards, Beti George, Jason Mohammad and Heini Gruffudd have led sessions on the University stand. There is a strong focus on recruiting and providing information to prospective students at the Eisteddfod, and our stand reflects this goal. Current students are invited to work on the stand annually under the University's SPIN employability scheme to support the recruitment activities.

Urdd Eisteddfod

null

Swansea University formed a partnership with Urdd Gobaith Cymru in 2011 to support and develop the GwyddonLe, which is the science tent at the Urdd. Academi Hywel Teifi's staff annually organise the committee of Science specialists from the University to plan the interactive activities for young visitors of all ages.

Activities include outreach activities prior to the Eisteddfod week in the form of school visits, workshops and competitions.

Through the GwyddonLe the Academi ensures that the University's Welsh-medium staff and postgraduate students can bring science alive to the tens of thousands of young people who visit the Field providing a platform for the Universities specialties and scientific projects. The Academi has ensured that the GwyddonLe has continually progressed and developed in terms of space, facilities and output, working in partnership with national organisations such as S4C.

Tafwyl

As a result of the partnership with Literature Wales, Academi Hywel Teifi was invited to contribute to Tafwyl's literature pavilion program at Cardiff in 2015. The session was organised to promote the research and expertise in the field of poetry by the Department of Welsh. The session was so successful that the Academi was invited to sponsor the literature pavilion, and present four sessions during 2016. Sessions were held to promote the National Contemporary Welsh Corpus project, Professor Alan Llwyd's new volume on Gwenallt, Aneurin Karadog's volume of poetry and Dr Elain Price discussed her new volume on the history of S4C with Beti George. Over 36,000 people attended Tafwyl in 2016.
