About our Departmental Scholarships

The Mathematics Department of Swansea University offers Mathematics prizes/scholarships worth up to a total of £3000 for students starting their university studies in September 2024. The prizes will be awarded on the basis of a competitive two-and-a-half-hour examination which will be taken 6th March  2024. Usually, applicants take the exam in their school or college, but this year arrangements will be made to enable applicants to sit the exam remotely. If you would like to take the exam, you will need to make Mathematics at Swansea one of your UCAS selections.

These scholarships can be used in conjunction with our Excellence and Merit scholarships.

If you are interested in taking the scholarship exam, then you should complete and return a Maths Scholarship exam 2024 form to us via email.

You can download the 2023 past examination paper here: Maths Scholarship exam 2023.

Note: The University will also award Excellence Bursaries worth £3,000 to students who achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent) and £2000 to students who achieve AAB at A-level (or equivalent).  For further details please see https://www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/scholarships/excellence-bursaries/

"Having not studied further maths at A level, I was apprehensive about starting my degree. Receiving the mathematics scholarship completely changed this, and I was able to begin my course with newfound confidence. I am so grateful to have been offered this scholarship; I look forward to studying mathematics with the reassurance it has provided me."

Grace Thomas From Gower College Swansea

"Winning the Swansea university Mathematics scholarship had been an incredible opportunity that I’m immensely grateful for. it not only alleviates some of the financial burden but also enabled me to explore some of the complex theories that I’d be studying. The recognition and validation that came with the scholarship has really boosted my self-esteem and gave me the confidence to tackle more challenging questions within maths. It’s a reminder that hard work pays off and I would highly recommend anyone thinking of studying mathematics in Swansea University to take part."
