The students of the Omani Society are hosting the event after their bid was chosen amongst a number of other proposals across the UK. The Cultural Attaché of the Omani Embassy visited the Swansea campus and was particularly impressed by the city.

The ambassador,  Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Hinai will be joined by a long list of other guests, including the Lord Deputy Lieutenant of West Glamorgan, the Lord Mayor & Mayoress of Neath & Port Talbot, the Cultural Attaché for the Omani Embassy in UK and other students and their family members from across the UK.

The University has nearly 60 students from Oman who are all hoping to share the celebrations with an expected 500 guests at the event.

An exhibition will be taking place showcasing Omani culture and heritage followed by an evening’s celebration featuring traditional Omani and Welsh dancing, music, singing and food. The event aims to bring together University, staff, students and members of the local community to celebrate a very important date in the Omani national calendar.

Swansea residents will be able to get a flavour of the celebrations themselves as a troupe of Omani dancers will be performing in Castle Square on Saturday from 10am.

  • The event will be taking place at 6.15pm Saturday 1st December in Fulton House, Swansea University
