‌But after a decade of training, the Mechanical Engineering student has finally decided to hang up his goggles to focus on his degree and follow a career in engineering.‎

Matt spent hours making the most of the sporting facilities available at the University, especially The Wales National Pool which provided him with a great training base.

And all that effort proved worthwhile as Matt took bronze in the 400m Freestyle Race with a personal best time of 5:11.59 at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

Matt said: ‘‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank the University for the support I’ve received over the past few years. The financial support has been fantastic and the facilities second to none. I owe a great deal of my success in the 2012 London Paralympic Games to the University and for that, I am truly thankful.’’

Noel Thompson, Swansea University Pro Vice Chancellor for Sport said: ‘‘Matt has been committed to swimming for such a long time and his achievements have been outstanding. He has been a great servant to Swansea University Swimming and an inspirational athlete for many people. We would like to wish him the very best for the future.’’
