In his remarks Swansea University Vice Chancellor Professor Richard B Davies underlined how important it was for Council to be able to draw on members' experience in other fields.

"The University really requires external expertise and oversight to do its business.  Both Viv and Carl have given us enormous support over the years.  They have challenged us at times, which is part of their role, and they have shown great patience.  But they have always been extremely supportive of the University"

Viv Sugar and Carl Hadley were each presented with a painting as a thank you from the Council for their contribution to its work.
