Swansea Science Cafe presents a talk by Professor Alan as part of the celebration of the UN International Year of Light. 2015 was chosen by the United Nations as the International Year of Light (IYL). This talk will explain the reasons for this decision and describe many of the exciting activities being held around the world as part of the IYL. A taste will be given of the IYL events in Wales. The presentation will be non-technical.

Professor Alan Shore is a Professor in the School of Electronic Engineering, Bangor University. He is the Founder and Chair of the Photonics Academy for Wales, is a world leader in optoelectronics and has over 900 publications. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Optical Society of America.
