My Home Life Cymru, which works to improve care homes in Wales, is to be hosted by the College of Health and Human Sciences at Swansea University, taking over the role from Age Cymru.

My Home Life Cymru works with care homes, statutory bodies, community organisations and others, co-creating new ways of working which better meet the needs of older people, relatives and staff.

Their vision is a world where care homes are great places to live, die, visit and work; where care homes are:

  • Supported to deliver to their potential
  • Valued and trusted by those who work with them
  • Cherished by their local communities

Since a highly successful launch event at College Fields Nursing Home, Barry in 2009, My Home Life Cymru has continued to make a major contribution to care homes across Wales.

Ian Thomas from Age Cymru says:

“Whilst our involvement with My Home Life Cymru has been tremendously significant we are thrilled to hand the baton to Swansea University. We also thank Welsh Government for all the support we have received over the last 8 years”.

My Home Life Cymru will continue to engage with care homes across Wales in the spirit and vision of the My Home Life UK movement, and work collaboratively with residents, families, staff of care homes and the wider sector.

Co-Directors will be Professor Vanessa Burholt, Director of the Centre for Innovative Ageing and the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR) and Professor Fiona Verity, Director of the Wales School for Social Care Research.

Professor Burholt, of the College of Human and Health Sciences at Swansea University, said:

“We are very excited to be the new hosts of My Home Life Cymru. This provides an opportunity for Swansea University to put research evidence into action, and make a real difference to the experiences of older people, families, carers, and staff living and working in care homes in Wales”.
