The University currently operates three separate probationary procedures and, whilst the ethos of the procedures remains the same throughout, the mechanics and timescales involved will differ between staff groups.
The objectives of the procedures are to:
- Ensure that all probationary employees are given every opportunity to maximise their potential within the initial period of their employment.
- Assist with induction of new staff and thus help to ensure the effective and efficient management of Colleges/Departments and the University.
- Identify the probationary employee’s individual training and development needs ensuring that they are consistent with the College/Department and the University’s aims and objectives.
- Provide a supporting programme and environment to allow the new employee to demonstrate their ability to meet the requirements of the post.
