A brand new project entitled ‘Dewch i Siarad!’ (Let’s Speak!) will be launched today (Monday, March 12) at 6pm at the Cawdor Hotel, Llandeilo.

The project is a partnership between Academi Hywel Teifi, Swansea University and Menter Bro Dinefwr and has been funded by the Welsh Government.

The Welsh for Adults Centre in North Wales have also arranged a similar project in partnership with Menter Maelor, and it’s hoped that the scheme will be rolled out across other parts of Wales in due course.

Its aim is to encourage Welsh learners to make use of their Welsh language skills when visiting local businesses.

Eighteen businesses in Carmarthenshire have signed onto the project and they are eager to welcome and encourage learners to use the Welsh language as often as they can.

Academi Hywel Teifi and Menter Bro Dinefwr have provided each business with guidance on how best to speak to Welsh learners.

Aled Davies, Director of South-West Wales Welsh for Adults Centre, Academi Hywel Teifi said: ‘‘The project will provide learners with an opportunity to use their Welsh language skills outside the classroom and will also build upon the informal teaching that already takes place in Welsh Language Centres for Adults across Wales.

‘‘We are extremely grateful to the businesses for their support and we look forward to seeing the project grow from strength to strength.’’
