Both Sophie Stanford and Nia Davies undertake research at the University’s College of Medicine and work in the blood-clot research unit at Morriston Hospital’s A&E department.

Sophie is a biomedical scientist carrying out research into the effects of cerebrovascular disease (conditions affecting blood vessels in the brain) and the way treatment affects blood clotting.

Nia is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow who is studying the effect of inflammation on blood clots in patients with lung and upper gastrointestinal cancer.

Both work under the supervision of Professor Adrian Evans, Reader in Emergency Medicine at Swansea University’s College of Medicine and Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Morriston Hospital.

Professor Adrian Evans said: “This is excellent news and I would like to congratulate both for being accepted onto this highly competitive academy.

“Being elected onto this group, where they will meet with national and international leaders in the field, will enhance their skills and knowledge and benefit our research programmes at Swansea University’s College of Medicine and Morriston Hospital.”
