Swansea University English Language Training Services department (ELTS) have been collaborating with language camp specialist EnjoyEbre to deliver an English language summer school to a group of 18 teenagers from Catalunya.

The summer school, which ran from 1st to 13th July this year, aims to introduce the teenagers to Wales and Welsh culture as well as helping them to improve their English language skills. EnjoyEbre have been running successful language camps in Ireland for a number of years but this is their first programme of this type in Wales.

As a fitting end to the summer school,  the students and Santiago Peleja from Enjoyebre are holding a Paella party on Friday 12th July at 7pm, in Café West.  Santiago (famous in Catalunya for his paellas) has provided the typical Spanish ingredients and ELTS and Catering Services have provided the fresh ingredients, kitchen facilities and location for the party.

Guests to the party include representatives from the Catalan Government, Visit Wales, Development Wales, a representative from the Mayor’s office in Tortosa, the Vice Chancellor and the Deputy Mayor of Swansea.

ELTS teaching staff will be joining in the party, 3 of whom are current Swansea University undergraduate students who have completed a Cambridge CELTA teaching qualification, as part of their degree programme in the College of Arts and Humanities.
