The Swansea Bay Innovation Hub, along with the Engineering Manufacturing Centre, has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

It is part of Swansea University’s £450m investment and will be based within the Engineering Central building in the new Engineering quarter of the Science and Innovation Campus.

The Swansea Bay Innovation Hub will house laboratories and research equipment enabling research in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, nanotechnology and chemical engineering.

The world-class facilities and state –of-the-art building will enable the University to grow its activities in advanced engineering and manufacturing, focussing upon  industrial and research developments in conceptual design, computer modelling simulation and optimisation.

The modern fully equipped laboratories will include a CWater Research Suite, bioprocessing and biotechnology labs, and nanotechnology facilities.

They will also include a Pilot scale Chemical / Process facility, a wind tunnel facility, an upgraded Merlin flight simulator, and novel fabrication capabilities including laser manufacturing and polymer composites.

The Civil engineering staff within the College of Engineering will also be based within the Swansea Bay Innovation Hub.

Dr Greg Coss said “Attending the ICE Awards Dinner was an excellent opportunity to promote the new Swansea Bay Innovation Hub research facilities to potential industry partners and companies that may be interested in collaborating on R&D projects with Swansea University. I’d like to thank the Institute of Civil Engineers Wales Cymru, and everyone who attended on behalf of the College.”
