Ceri Bird, Head of Swansea University’s Legal Services Team, has won The Legal 500 ‘UK In-house Individual of the Year: Public Sector’ category in this year’s awards.

Ceri BirdCeri (pictured), who graduated from Swansea University’s College of Law in 2009, is a practising solicitor and joined the University in October 2013 as its Legal Adviser.  In October 2014, she became the Head of the Legal Services Team.

The University’s Legal Services Team is part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and provides legal support and advice on a comprehensive range of legal matters relating to the work of the University, to its Colleges, and to its Administrative Departments.

Prior to joining Swansea University, Ceri worked for the City and County of Swansea for 10 years and has experience in a variety of legal areas including property, commercial contracts, procurement, employment, equal pay, housing, highways and planning, flood defence, education, and charities.

The Legal 500 awards for in-house lawyers and teams are taken from the research that is conducted for the Legal 500 directories. Through comprehensive research and conversation with private practice lawyers, experts, and other in-house lawyers, the Legal 500 team identify individuals mentioned for exemplary work, who are then selected to receive the awards annually.

Speaking about winning the Legal 500 award, Ceri said: “It is a surprise and a great honour to be recognised in this way by colleagues and peers for my professional services to Swansea University.

“I am delighted to accept this award, along with the invitation to attend the Legal 500 awards dinner in London on Tuesday, November 10, where all of this year’s award winners will be presented.”
