Title: The Science of Dr Who
Speaker: Dr Edward Gomez, Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network
Date: Wednesday 27th April
Time: 7.30 pm
Venue: The Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea
Admission: Free, all welcome
In this talk Dr Gomez will ponder if any of the worlds the Dr Who has travelled to are similar to the several thousand currently known alien worlds (exoplanets) discovered by astronomers in the last 20 years. He will also discuss what science tells us about time travel and the "time vortex" used by the Doctor.
Dr Gomez is a lifelong fan of Doctor Who and an astrophysicist by day. He is an astronomer and education director for Las Cumbres Observatory and is an honorary lecturer at the School of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University.
He said: “Doctor Who was one of the things that inspired me to be a scientist. I loved the idea that you could solve any problem, and even help people, by using science"
