Swansea University’s Campus Life will launch The Language Zone on Thursday 20 October, a new integration initiative that aims to bring home and international students together through their love of learning languages.

Languages Held at JC’s on the Singleton Campus, students will have the opportunity to socialise with other students in an informal setting, whilst learning different languages.

The language learning is at a basic level and will be taught by native or fluent speakers and achieved through language games and activities. For example, a Chinese student could teach a French student Chinese, and a Welsh student teaching a German student the basics of Welsh.

There are also opportunities for students to enhance their employability by becoming a language leader and teaching their language to other students.

Asad Rahman, Head of Student Support Services, said: "The Language Zone is a great way to meet students from different cultural backgrounds and we hope it will build a sense of community by bringing students of all nationalities together. Whether students are fluent or beginners, everyone is welcome.

“Our initiative spans further again with skills development, something we at Campus Life are very passionate about. By collaborating with Swansea Employability Academy (SEA), The Language Zone can offer students accreditations through their Higher Academic Employability Record (HEAR). Through collaboration with the Swansea Employability Academy (SEA), students can accredit their work to their HEAR through the different initiatives SEA offer.”

The first Language Zone will be held at JC’s, Singleton Campus, between 5.30pm - 7pm on Thursday 20 October.
