Swansea University will be hosting a Mary Williams Group Seminar which will focus on Equality and Diversity.

Professor Jane HillSpeaker: Professor Jane Hill, Professor of Ecology, Department of Biology at the University of York.

Date: Friday 24 June 2016

Time:  11.30am – 1.30pm

Venue:The Hub in Institute of Life Science 2 (ILS2)

At the seminar, Professor Hill will provide her personal perspective of addressing gender equality issues and how her department became the first University department in the UK to receive an Athena SWAN Gold award. The Equality Challenge Unit Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 and now encourages and recognises commitment to advancing the careers of women in higher education and research. While Professor Hill is an ecology academic, in 2008, she became the Biology Department's Athena SWAN champion and led her department's successful application for Gold in 2014 and also helped put together the University of York's recent Bronze renewal application.

As a consequence of changes in York University’s structure and strategy, Professor Hill’s Athena SWAN role has been widened and she is now also departmental Equality and Diversity Champion, and she will soon take over responsibility for Athena SWAN in the Science faculty.

The Swansea University Mary Williams Group is a network of senior women from all departments across the University.

The event will also feature a presentation from Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Swansea University’s Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor entitled, “Equality and Diversity: To Australia and back”

The event is free, open to all and lunch will be provided. To book a place and inform of any dietary or accessibility requirements contact Swansea University Equality Assistant Cath Elms, at c.l.elms@swansea.ac.uk
